William "Popsie" Randolph

William "Popsie" Randolph was the preeminent paparazzo photographer of the New York music scene from the 1940's through the 1970's. He shot on assignment for various record companies, publicity firms, newspapers and trade magazines, he chronicled the transition from the Big Bands into the small tight Jazz combos and to rhythm and blues and rock and roll. His archives contain over 100,000 negatives and prints, composing an astounding collection with a huge range of material. He has shot many artists including Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis and Carole King. His works have been published in multiple books, including a book of intimate portraits of a young Frank Sinatra. Randolph's photos have been requested by the White House and displayed at prestigious museums such as the Smithsonian, Grammy museum and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
