Join us for an evening with Chad Smith. Parallax serves as the fine art debut of drummer Chad Smith. The collection, which features 13 different works, is crafted from the rhythm-on-canvas medium. Like a painter using brushes with oils of different colors, Smith worked with drumsticks that light in a variety of ways to craft rhythms that would translate into canvas. Following the rhythmic work, each visual is brought into the Los Angeles studio SceneFour, where the captured rhythms undergo an extensive and sophisticated process to bring out the abstract. Finally each work is named by Smith and laid to canvas in this highly limited release, Parallax.
Over the last three decades, Chad Smith has become one of the most recognizable figures in rock and rhythm. As drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, he’s old more than 80 million albums and has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. With supergroup Chickenfoot and the Bombastic Meatbats, he’s expanded into a variety of musical genres with an extraordinary assortment of collaborators. And with Parallax, his debut collection of fine art, he moves from sound to sight through sophisticated technology to visually harness his preternatural drum skills, previously seen only through sound, now rendered gloriously visible.
