Carlos Santana joins The Rolling Stones and others for the benefit concert after the devastating earthquake in Nicaragua in 1973 at The Forum in Los Angeles, California.
"In 1972, Nicaragua was wracked by a major earthquake, leaving roughly 11,000 dead and 300,000 homeless. The promoter, Bill Graham, had reserved the Forum immediately after the disaster knowing that Bianca Jagger (married to Mick Jagger at the time) was Nicaraguan and Santana’s timbales player was also from Nicaragua. He then contacted the Stones and Santana who had also been thinking about doing something to show support for earthquake victims and their families in Nicaragua. The benefit concert was officially announced January 15th.
I struggled to maneuver myself amongst the crowd of the cheering Santana-loving audience so I could position myself to get this image. While I could easily focus the lens, it was hard to focus my attention on the image. I was one of the Santana-loving audience members at heart. They gave an outstanding performance.
