    About this photograph

"[Jay Z] was running late for something, and was going to have about 10 minutes. So it’s a six-page photo essay, and the cover of the magazine — and I have 10 minutes. He walked in, very professional, and I had to scramble because not only did he only have a couple of minutes, but he came early. I looked around the studio, and saw the pop filter — I took the screen off of it, and I was kind of inspired by the old Blue Note jazz photographs. We hung these microphones off of a c-stand, and I literally shot the whole story in 12 minutes. And I got one of my favorite photographs." - Danny Clinch for Billboard
