About this photograph
"Reading Festival, 1992. Kurt, behind the mic with a bemused, beatific look on his face, suddenly turned to me between songs and shouted what appeared to be (because I couldn't hear from that distance), "Is everything kay?" While 45,000 fans waited, he was checking in. Was it about me, my well being, the performance, the sound? To this day I'm still not sure–but it made me laugh. It was clear Kurt loved having so many of his old friends around on that big night. I took his picture, gave him a thumbs up, and furiously waved him back to performing. He nodded, and turned back to the job at hand. As I did." - Charles Peterson. Photograph by Charles Peterson.
