Jazz Visionaries

Sam Selects - Vol. 13

Jazz Visionaries

For Black History Month, I’ve curated a collection of photographs to honor the jazz visionaries who laid the foundation for generations of musicians to come. Their images, much like their music, tell a story of innovation, passion, and an enduring artistic legacy.

My love for jazz runs long and deep, beginning in 1967 when my sister introduced me to Wes Montgomery’s A Day in the Life. Since then, it has been central to all my ventures, from the jazz vinyl room at Sam’s Jams to live performances at my nightclub, The Magic Bag, and now Musichead Gallery, where we’ve hosted over 150 Just Jazz concerts. Celebrating jazz means honoring the genius, struggle, and legacy of the Black musicians who revolutionized sound and continue to inspire new improvisations. Let me know if you’d like a print that documents this great American art form.
