About the photographer

Ron Raffaelli (1942-2021) was a visionary rock photographer whose striking imagery helped define the visual legacy of the late 1960s and ’70s. His electrifying work captured Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham as they were becoming Led Zeppelin, visually chronicling their meteoric rise. In 1968, Jimi Hendrix personally selected Raffaelli as his official photographer, granting him rare access to document Hendrix and The Experience in intimate detail. He also photographed The Rolling Stones, Blind Faith, The Doors, Fleetwood Mac, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Jefferson Airplane, among others. A master of darkroom techniques, Raffaelli brought a bold, cinematic vision to rock photography, using his meticulous craftsmanship and creative direction to shape some of the era’s most enduring images.
