    About this photograph

Guitar legend Jimi Hendrix is photographed shooting pool at the Bel Air home of John and Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas on July 1, 1967. Hendrix would open for the band at California's Hollywood Bowl music festival the following month, before returning as the event's headliner in 1968.

"Somehow I ended up giving Jimi a lift to the party... The party was packed with people; Jimi and I started to play pool. I remember that I was winning and then Jimi, distracted by a couple of very stylish girls, just walked away from the table. I never did give him a ride home" - Ed Caraeff
