About this album

Recorded before an audience of inmates at California’s Folsom State Prison on January 13, 1968, At Folsom Prison captures Johnny Cash at a pivotal moment in his career, delivering a raw, electrifying performance backed by June Carter, Carl Perkins, and the Tennessee Three. As Rolling Stone observed, Cash “paradoxically celebrated prison and outlaw life while creating a damning portrait of the prison experience that pricked the era’s concern for society’s outcast.” The album revitalized Cash’s career, topped the country charts, and earned a Grammy Award, cementing its legacy as one of the most consequential live recordings in American music history.
