About this album

Released in 1971, Blue is Joni Mitchell at her most unguarded, a landmark of singer-songwriter artistry that transformed deeply personal experience into music of lasting emotional resonance. Built around Mitchell’s expressive voice, acoustic guitar, piano, and Appalachian dulcimer, the album pairs the wistful longing of “River” and “A Case of You” with the free-spirited storytelling of “Carey.” Written and produced entirely by Mitchell, Blue redefined the possibilities of vulnerability in popular music. It ranked No. 3 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Album of All Time list and continues to influence generations of songwriters.
