His photographs of luminaries like Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, and Duke Ellington not only captured the essence of their performances but also immortalized the vibrant jazz scene of New York's 52nd Street and Harlem. Leonard's work, celebrated for its dramatic lighting and intimate portrayal of musicians, has been exhibited worldwide and is part of the permanent collection at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. His legacy continues to be honored through major exhibitions, including at the GRAMMY Museum and Jazz at Lincoln Center.
